![]() They're forced to abandon their own self-preservation to attack a stranger for no apparent reason. Why would they even bother? They seem content to do their own thing until the protagonist arrives, and the protagonist would have no reason to kill them if they're not a threat. That might even include the rudimentary consciousness of the monsters, who seem to have their own behaviors and motivations that occur behind the scenes (mainly animalistic stuff like eating), but abandon those to attack the protagonist as soon as they draw near. The implication could be that all of the consciousnesses manifested by the town undergo this process, the town "dreams" until they are assigned to their purpose. And the journey she goes on appears to lead her to that understanding about herself, while also developing a personality and motivation that seems to disappear once her purpose is realized. But it seems like what occurs is that the town manifests a sentient entity with an internal world who is then repurposed for the sake of James' journey. I don't know if this is intentional, it's just something I picked up on. The willful character we get to know in Born From A Wish is supplanted by a similar woman with completely different motivations, revolving around James and his relationships. When she learns about James from Ernest, her behavior starts to change. In fact, it kind of feels like the Maria we play in Born From A Wish is sort of a different person from the Maria we see in Silent Hill 2. Maria is a manifestation of James' subconscious, but appears to have a complex internal life of her own nonetheless. Ernest could very well have been a real person, but it's unclear whether he's literally a ghost or more like some kind of echo of someone who lived in the town, their personal tragedy imprinted on the spiritual power, possibly because of an attempted occult ritual to bring his daughter back.īut yeah, in general it seems to be an exploration of the consciousnesses created by the town. So she was "born from a wish" as James enters the town.Ī lot of what's going on in the game is a bit of a mystery though. So it starts when James enters town, and ends before James gets to Rosewater Park. There aren't really answers for most of this stuff, but I generally got the implication that Born From A Wish happens concurrently with the beginning of Silent Hill 2. Any rude and toxic ppl will be blocked and reported. PS: NO toxic or rude comments! I came here just to ask SANE ppl who are nice enough to explain this to me. So what’s the deal? Pretend I’m a 2 year old because these kind of storylines make it so hard for me to understand. I always thought her existence would be present ONLY if James was around or nearby, but in this particular scenario, he wasn’t even in Silent Hill yet. I grew up all this time believing she was just a psychological manifestation of James’s desire for a “perfect Marie” but this part of the game made me question it. What confused me the most is not him but Maria herself. Who the hell is Ernest? Was he an actual real person in the game or was he just a ghost? And what did he mean by “maybe I can too” or something like that along the lines? so I borrowed her (my friend’s) PS2 to play that part for the first time in my life and now I’m even more confused. I was so eager to know more because I love Maria and James and I wanted to know more about them. ![]() I was only 11 years old, (I’m 30 now) but NEVER in my life did I know about this “extended version”! I met an old friend of mine today who I haven’t seen in ages, we were talking about the series since we’re both fans and I was completely SHOCKED when she told me that there was an “extended” or “definitive” edition of the game! I really did NOT know that because I only played the first original release of the game at the time of its launch. ![]() I only played the original game back in the day when it was first released. SH2 was and still is one of the greatest video games I have ever played in my life, it was my personal favorite from the series and is still arguably my favorite survival horror game in general.
